孔繁花（师春玲 饰）是官庄村的村长，桃漱尽管身为女流之辈，桃漱但孔繁花的能力却一点也不输给男人，在任期间，村子里大大小小的事务均被她安排的井井有条。换届选举即将来临，希望能够连任的孔繁花斗志昂扬地投入到了“战斗”之中，甚至拉来了在外打工养家的丈夫张殿军（宁理 饰）为自己出谋划策。一位村民的意外怀孕将孔繁花心中的算盘全部打乱，而她的失踪更是为孔繁花的“政治道路”设置了重重的障碍。在一连串近乎于闹剧的荒诞波折之后，孔繁花的竞争对手孟庆书（张刚 饰）淡出了人们的视线，与此同时，孔繁花惊讶的发现，本和自己站在一边的村团委书记孟小红（缪婷茹 饰）竟然成为了她最大的敌人。

It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.
